Don’t chastise yourself for any ‘stumbles’ (reversions to bad habits). Learn from them. Think of a toddler learning to walk, which is a new behavior. The youngster will fall down often until he gets things right. He falls down, and then he gets up. He doesn’t give up. He keeps on getting up and working at this new behavior by successful and successive reinforcement until it becomes habitual, until it becomes ‘second nature,’ until the new behavior replaces the old behavior.
Listen to your reinforcement tapes daily for the first couple of weeks, then every other day for another couple of weeks. Repeat as needed for new, improved behavior. Practice those mini relaxation and self-hypnosis sessions daily (four to five minutes every day). This is how you empower yourself! Remember the techniques: Breathe deeply, slowly, and comfortably to relax your body, and when you do this, your mind relaxes. It becomes highly focused. This is not only a great stress-reliever; it quiets your critical, conscious mind and opens the door to making suggestions to your subconscious mind. Remember the importance of visualizations and affirmations. This is a technique that brings change into your life; it empowers you!
As you get more skilled at relaxing, you can substitute the longer ‘head-to-toe’ procedure with a slow countdown from ten, then later, from five down to one. You can learn how to relax on command and slow your breathing on command. What a great and effective way to remove stress from your life!
When you are in your self-induced trance, work on those major and minor behavior issues in your life that you want to change or eliminate. Remember: your subconscious mind works in strange, mysterious ways. Program your subconscious mind by direct suggestions to build up your self-image and confidence. Once you start bringing positive improvements into your life, under your control, this opens the door to much more improvement.
Use your imagination to help you bring behavior changes into your life. If you get into the habit of imagining the details and specifics of the ‘new you’ in the movies of your mind, you’ll find out just how powerful these hypnotic tools are. Successful performers do this regularly and effectively.
Be sure to be aware of and attuned to the gentle reminders coming up from your subconscious mind to the surface. These sometimes slight reminders are designed to correct and modify the behaviors you, yourself, have indicated that are very important to you, so don’t ignore such great advice from such an important source, your own subconscious mind.
Keep using self-hypnosis after initial success. Don’t just stop using this training and growth approach once you’ve reached your goal. Reinforce it as needed.
